Maturity indeed. While Countless Shadows (CS) first release was a worthwhile listen, it suffered from inconsistency. The songs did not flow together too well and the production was lacking something. This time around, CS give us 7 songs of brain pounding hardcore meant to beat any skeptic to the ground. For those who don’t know, CS play a hybrid of hardcore, metal, and punk. They are actually the textbook definition of metal-core. Unlike many bands that play this style of music however, you won’t find any clean vocals or emo leanings. Lyrically, they give social commentaries and critiques about the scene. The riffs are unique and melodic at times, and vary the pace quite a lot through each song. The difference I really noticed from the first release is the low end. The bass sounds crisp and the drumming is drastically improved. If there is any justice in the world, then kids will wake up to this band in a world filled with mindless metal-core clones. Whether you like to mosh, two-step, circle pit, or stage dive, this should be your new favorite band since CS brings it all out on the table. NK-OB-Zine #1
